Hans-Roel Nieuwenhuijse
Estilo Amsterdam Meubelstudio
Born in 1963 and grown up on a farm in a rural province of Holland, called Zeeland. I studied Geography and after that worked in international cooperation for about 10 years. In this period I traveled a lot and I lived and absorbed a lot of international culture. Among other things, I worked for a Fair Trade Organisation, where I developed an appreciation for people who make things in a fair way.
This appreciation stayed in me, and at the age of 34 I decided to make the big step: I stopped working and entered the Dutch Wood and Furniture College. “Making things” was not a whim for me. On the contrary: Out of appreciation a real passion was developed, almost like a vocation. In the year 2000 I founded Estilo Amsterdam Meubelstudio (“meubel” is the Dutch word for Furniture).
My workshop is located in a center for creative small businesses: Tussen de Bogen in Amsterdam. This, by the way, is a piece of art in itself: http://www.kunstenpubliekeruimte.nl/werk_112.html
This is a workshop, not a showroom. In case you wish to visit me, kindly contact me beforehand.
I share the workshop with another designer of furniture and cabinet maker: Annette van Citters. http://www.vancitters.nl
