Rietje

The communication with Rietje was only through internet... Her friend lives in Amsterdam, and she one day brought me the weatherworn deva house from Rietje's garden. In Rietje's buddhist practice, she uses the miniature temple to feed and honor the spirits in her garden. She puts fruit and incense in and around the temple when there is a full moon. Rietje's deva house had gone lost, and for a while she was looking for some way to get a new one.

By mail she sent me a full size map (because she wanted it bigger than the previous one) and I looked for weatherproof wood and made samples of for instance the corral, of which I sent her photos by email. In that way we agreed on the design.

The initial idea was she would find someone else for the painting, but after doing the woodwork, she said she now trusted me enough to also do the painting myself. When it was finished, I delivered it to her house (and garden), where she invited me to participate in the consecration ceremony.
